Trimester 2 Important Information
The Trimester 2 schedule started on Monday, November 30th. This Fall we have received feedback from families about successes and challenges during hybrid and remote learning. We have reflected on what the community has shared and incorporated the feedback into our Trimester 2 schedules to support optimal learning of students including:
A better balance of direct instruction, screen time, and independent student work time
Student choice of enrichment courses
A blend of synchronous and asynchronous instruction
How will blended synchronous and asynchronous instruction work?
During the full remote period in December and January:
Mondays and Thursdays will be synchronous learning days for all students. On synchronous days, students will be on Zoom with teachers and follow the normal daily schedule, starting each day with Crew.
Tuesdays and Fridays students will have their regular synchronous Crew meeting with teachers and then will participate in asynchronous work in an independent, self-paced manner. On asynchronous days, work will be clearly posted in Google Classroom. Students will need to complete a daily Touchpoint activity on asynchronous days for each class, as well as the coursework that teachers post on anchor documents. Meaningful work that furthers student understanding of course concepts will take place on asynchronous days, not busywork! Students will need to submit synchronous and asynchronous work in a timely manner according to posted deadlines.
Wednesdays will remain the same as during Trimester 1. Each Wednesday starts with Crew, extra help sessions for courses take place from 9:00am to Noon, and teachers are available by appointment for additional extra help on Wednesday afternoons.
We hope that these improvements will help balance the amount of screen time students are experiencing while continuing to offer an engaging and rigorous academic program. As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns.
