IMPORTANT 2022-2023 Back to School Information

Dear Kreiva Families,


I hope this note finds you enjoying your summer and staying cool during this latest spell of hot weather. The Kreiva 2022-2023 school calendar is attached to this email and below you will find some important and exciting news regarding the school year ahead.


Enrollment

If you have not completed the online enrollment process thru AlmaStart, please reach out to Family Engagement Specialist Melissa Johnston at mjohnston@kreiva.org or call her at extension 1001. She can walk you through the process, help you upload documents, or make an appointment to come in to use one of Kreiva’s computers to complete the process. If you have a student IEP or 504 that still needs to be reviewed, please be sure to email it to Lisa Cohen at lcohen@kreiva.org or drop a copy with Melissa at the main office. Pre-Admission Conferences will begin again in mid-August if you haven’t had yours yet.


Welcome Back Cookout! Thursday, September 1, 5-7pm


The Kreiva Academy Back to School cookout provides a way for students and families to stop by and say hello and meet teachers and new staff before the start of school. Come on by on Thursday September 1st, between 5pm and 7pm to say hello and enjoy a cookout dinner with members of the Kreiva staff. We are excited to see you!


Early Release Wednesdays


First, on the school calendar you will see that we will be doing an early release each Wednesday this year at 1pm in order to provide important professional development and planning time for our staff. We are committed to providing a high-quality, personalized educational experience for every student and we are using this time to provide critical resources and support as well as time for collaboration to our staff for the betterment of every students’ experience. Busing will still be provided at the beginning and the end (1pm) of the school day on Wednesdays.


Art and Performing Arts at Kreiva This Year


We are very excited to announce that we will have full time art and performing arts teachers at Kreiva this year. Be on the lookout for updated staff bios on our website soon. We have a PHENOMENAL team for 2022-2023!


Free Afterschool Programming


Afterschool programming will be available to Kreiva students this year Monday thru Thursday FREE OF CHARGE. Be on the lookout for more information and sign-ups soon. Afterschool programming provides a combination of clubs, activities, and academic enrichment/support that students can partake in both at Kreiva and at the YWCA.


Grades 6-7 Nature's Classroom Trip


This Fall, grade 6 and 7 students will have the opportunity to go to Camp Cody in Freedom, NH from October 5th to 7th with their team for three days of amazing programming including team building activities, scientific fieldwork and labs to explore the local ecosystem, swimming and boating on the lake, hiking, and more! This trip of FREE to all Kreiva students through grant funding.

Back to School Community Building at Great Island Common in New Castle, NH


On Thursday, September 8th, we will travel to New Castle, NH for the day to come together as a school community to get to know one another other outside of the school. Each year we have new students and staff who join the Kreiva community and this day is important for all to attend as we will be participating in activities to come together as a team and community. A cook-out lunch will be provided and there will be time for students to take a swim at the beautiful beach, if desired. Let us know if you would like to chaperone and come along, it’s going to be a great day!

UNH Stem Lab


The UNH Stem Lab will be joining us again this year and will be working with students during Trimester 2. Be on the lookout for more information about this amazing partnership.

Kreiva Kitchen and Pantry Items


The Kreiva Kitchen continues to be open through the summer with shelf stable, fresh and frozen items (including chicken, pork, turkey and beef). Please contact Melissa at mjohnston@kreiva.org if pantry items would be helpful for your family this summer. Melissa is at Kreiva every Tuesday and Wednesday.


Get Involved! Community Organization Being Started


An organization that engages community stakeholders is being started for this school year. We are excited to engage in more collaboration, input, and feedback as a community to help to effectively support the growth and evolution of Kreiva Academy. Be part of the change you want to see! Contact Melissa at mjohnston@kreiva.org if you are interested in getting involved and watch for more information later this summer and fall.

We are so excited to welcome all students back in the fall and we are busy preparing the building with new spaces including an art studio. Staff have been busy participating in summer professional development from groups like PBL Works, The Barr Foundation, the Vermont Restorative Justice Institute, and the Franklin Covey Corporation.
