Bi-Weekly Update - 09/27/21

Dear Kreiva Community,

Last week, students completed their first full week of classes. Students are getting settled into classroom and community routines. Please remind your student to bring their Chromebook to school each day as these are used daily in many classes. We are finishing make-up sessions for NWEA testing this week and students will be setting personal goals for NWEA growth in their courses over the next few weeks. NWEA test scores will be mailed home to families between October 1st and 15th.

We need families to help us with one issue that has been occurring which is incessant cell phone use during classes. This is disruptive to instruction and learning. Please ask your student to keep their cell phone in their backpack during classes. Students do not need their cell phones for classroom instruction as every student is asked to have a Chromebook or laptop. Starting tomorrow, Monday September 27th, Kreiva Academy is adopting a NO CELL PHONE policy during classroom instruction. Students have breaks during the day as well as lunch time when cell phones are allowed to be used. If there is an urgent matter and you need to get in touch with your student, please call the main office and we will put you in contact with your student. Our Dean, Mrs. Normandin, and Student Support Administrator, Renee Williams, are available to provide support to students daily and also will reach out with your student if need arises. Cell phones that are brought out repeatedly during instructional time will be collected and kept in the main office and can be picked up at the end of the school day.

With cooler temperatures starting to emerge, please encourage your student to bring a sweatshirt or jacket. Classes do go outside often to get fresh air or even to have a class outdoors.

A few upcoming dates:

Monday, October 11th No school, Columbus Day holiday

Tuesday, October 19th Evening Goal Setting Conferences (more info soon!)

Wednesday, October 20th No school, but Goal Setting Conferences will be taking place for students and families that do not attend on Tuesday night 10/19

As always, your partner in education,

Jenn
